How To Use A Glass Dildo – For Beginners!

Thinking of spicing things up by adding a glass dildo to your sex toys repertoire? Here’s our beginner’s guide on how to use a glass dildo for the first time, and how to choose the best glass dildo for you!

Curious about using a glass dildo but worried about whether a glass dildo is even safe or whether it will break? Thankfully, glass sex toys have been around for a while and they are wonderful, safe, and a more hygienic alternative to silicone and plastic sex toys… if they are made correctly!

Are glass dildos safe?

Properly produced and annealed glass toys are completely safe, according to Adela Stoulilová, co-founder of Onna Lifestyle.

If the glass dildo is made of scientific grade borosilicate glass and annealed at specific temperatures to remove any inherent stress, they are perfectly safe to use. Unfortunately, not all glass dildos are made of scientific grade borosilicate glass and are annealed – making them a “ticking bomb” and unsafe to use.

“There are a lot of glass dildos and other sex toys that have questionable quality,” says Adela. “I keep seeing more and more of those cheap mass-produced made in China glass sex toys shaped like tentacles or are covered with colored nubs and bits.

These cheap glass sex toys are purchased on Alibaba for five dollars and then rebranded and sold for seventy dollars. They are not properly annealed to endure stress, therefore they are a bit of a ticking bomb and unsafe. Yet a lot of female pleasure brands sell them and this frankly makes me a bit nervous.”

Instead of buying a cheap glass dildo and risk your safety using it, we recommend checking out Onna Lifestyle’s premium quality glass dildos made of high-quality borosilicate glass and annealed at specific temperatures (use code GIRLSJWO to get an exclusive 10% off!).

Why choose a glass dildo over other types of dildos

Glass dildos feel frictionless

Glass dildos are non-porous, super smooth, and they glide better in comparison with silicone dildos, which will always cause some kind of friction.

When you are sufficiently lubricated or with extra lube, glass dildos will feel practically friction-less. “Glass dildos have a hard and rigid structure which allow for a much firmer and more consistent stimulation,” explains Adela. “They glide in and out with ease, and since they are usually heavier than other types of dildos, you may experience new sensations and an even more delicious pressure.”

Glass dildos are safer to use and easier to clean

Unlike silicone, glass is a completely non-porous material. Using a dildo or any other sex toy that is porous could be harmful, as the porous material is the perfect environment for bacteria and germs to thrive. This can cause you to end up with nasty and recurring bacterial vaginosis or a yeast infection, why is also why we recommend using condoms with silicone and jelly toys.

Glass dildos are also super easy to clean and the bacteria do not stay on to the surface easily. This means unlike other materials, glass dildos and glass sex toys do not absorb odors. For example, silicone butt plugs tend to absorb odor and that might be quite a turn-off after a couple of uses.

To clean your glass dildo, simply wash your glass dildo with warm water, add some mild soap and they will be perfectly cleaned.

Glass dildos are compatible with different types of lube, not just water-based lube

You may have heard the advice not to use silicone lube with silicone dildos, as it may cause a silicone sex toy to degrade over time.

Glass dildos, on the other hand, are lube friendlier, and are compatible with the different kinds of lube (oil-based, water-based, and silicone lubes).

Glass dildos are great for temperature play!

Another benefit of glass dildos is their ability to take on the temperature of their environment.

“You will literally feel them warming up in your body, which feels super amazing,” explains Adela. “For those who love temperature play, glass dildos can be cooled down or warmed up before use by running them under cold or warm water.”

That being said, if you prefer extreme temperature play, we recommend using a stainless steel dildo as a more appropriate material.

How to use a glass dildo

We love using a glass dildo for self-pleasure, solo play, or with a partner. Glass dildos are also amazing for pleasure/pelvic/yoni mapping, de-armouring (a way to release blockages, stuck energy, emotions and tension from the body), and internal massage – perfect for awakening the sensations inside the vagina and the cervix.

However, since glass dildos are rigid, they are not recommended to be used with a harness as a strap on.

How to choose a glass dildo

Before choosing and buying a glass dildo, you need to know that well-made, body-safe glass dildos are pricey. You are paying a higher price for a high-quality material and a professionally crafted one-of-a-kind piece that will last a long time (if cared for properly).

While there are cheap mass-produced glass dildos being sold, we do not recommend inserting these low-quality glass dildos into your body.

If you are on a tight budget, Adela recommends buying a cheap silicone dildo rather than a mass-produced cheap glass dildo that could be potentially harmful.

Start with the experience you are looking for

Depending on the sensations and experience you are looking for, there are various glass dildo shapes to choose from.

If you are new to glass dildos

If you are new to penetrative self-pleasure, or perhaps you are experiencing tension or pain during penetration, then we recommend the Onna Allure Curve glass dildo.

It is the thinnest of the Onna range of glass dildo designs, and is specifically designed for mapping, de-armouring and gentle penetration. Some women even use the Allure Curve glass dildo as a dilator.

For G-Spot massage

Some glass dildos are designed with a bulbous end to massage the G-spot area. The G-spot loves the bulbous shape as it applies pressure on the entire body as well as the tail of the female prostate, which is known as the G-spot.

If you feel comfortable with penetration but not feeling much from it, the Onna Allure Pearl glass dildo is known to make women squirt. Its bulbous end is sculpted for accessing better internal sensation and directly stimulating the G-spot.

For anal play and cervix stimulation

Longer and curved dildo shapes are great for A-spot and cervix loving without stretching and bending your arm into impossible angles.

The Onna Awaken glass dildo is smooth, long, sleek, and curved in the right places, perfect for self or assisted yoni massages, anal pleasure, and stimulating the G-spot and the cervix.

If you are prefer a glass butt plug for anal play, Onna Bonbon is designed for exploring super sensual anal pleasure and sensations.

How to clean a glass dildo and take care of it

According to Adela, make sure you are handling your glass dildo with care. Store your glass dildo in the pouch they came with and place it in a storage place with a soft surface (for example, your lingerie drawer). This will prevent your glass dildo from rolling around and hitting hard surfaces or getting scratched.

Even though high quality glass dildos are annealed at high temperatures and do not break easily, you still do not want to drop your glass dildo on a concrete floor.

To clean your glass dildo, make sure to wash it after each use. Give your glass dildo a thorough rinse under warm water and use mild soap.

Adela also recommends not washing your glass dildo in the dishwasher as it might get minor scratches.
